Macy earnings again on target

R. H. Macy & Co. Inc. said yesterday that its earnings met expectations in June for the fifth straight month, although sales were held back by a weak performance in the Northeast.

Macy said its June earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization totaled $12.2 million, compared to a loss of $7.4 million in June 1992. Sales at stores open at least a year -- the most commonly used measure of retail sales strength -- rose 1.5 percent, while sales from all of Macy's stores were up 3.1 percent.
