Sometimes, it takes a lot of planning and hard work to have fun.

Organizers of the fourth annual Pumphrey Day, scheduled for Aug. 21, still need the help of friends and neighbors to make this day a success.

If you have any items to donate for the auction, call 789-9037 or 789-9127, and volunteers will arrange to pick them up.

The Brooklyn Park Youth Athletic Association will play host to the Tim Wittman and Mark Mettrick Soccer Camp from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. beginning Aug. 9 and continuing through Aug. 13 at the 10th Avenue fields. A goalie camp will be included.

Harbor Hospital news: Tours of the Maternity Unit are held at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of the month for expectant couples who plan to deliver at the hospital. The baby's grandparents are invited to participate.

Grandparents also are invited to learn about the latest techniques in childbirth and child care during the hospital's one-hour Grandparenting Class. This class is held after a tour of the maternity ward on the first Saturday and Wednesday of the month.

Interested in coaching cheerleading? If you answered yes, then the Brooklyn Park Broncos Youth Football and Cheerleading Organization is looking for you.

Volunteers, 18 years of age and older, are needed to coach cheerleading from August until the end of November. Call 850-4463 for more information.

Vacation Bible School will begin next Monday and continue through Aug. 13, at the Brooklyn Heights United Methodist Church, 110 Townsend Ave.

Classes will be held from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Everyone over the age of 2 is invited to attend. This year's theme will be "Peter Rock." Adult classes will be studying the Book of Acts. For more information, call 789-3688.

Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the Arundel Improvement Association annual crab feast, set for Aug. 29, at the association hall, 705 Cross St.

Music will be provided by the dick jockeys M & M. The menu will include steamed hard crabs, corn on the cob, hot dogs, sauerkraut, baked beans, salads, a greens table, chips and beer. Festivities begin at 1 p.m. and wind down at 6 p.m.

Tickets are $20 per person and must be purchased in advance. All proceeds will benefit the building fund.

North County High School news: All seniors will receive appointments to have their pictures taken at the school on Aug. 23, 24 or 25. If you have not received an appointment by mid-August, notify the school at 859-5400.

* Parking permits for seniors will be issued at the school office between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. next week. A limited number of permits will be issued. Any leftover permits will be issued to 11th-grade students during the week of Aug. 16.

* Practice for all fall athletic teams will begin on Aug. 14. All athletes must have a physical examination before they can participate. For more information, contact the athletic director at 859-5400.

The Northern District Police Community Relations Council will not meet this month. Meetings will resume next month.
