25 Years Ago (week of July 21-27, 1968):

* The Howard County Interracial Commission met this week with the county commissioners to submit a proposed new charter for the group, whose members were appointed by the commissioners. One provision of the proposed charter was to change the name of the group to the Human Rights Commission.

* Five dairy barns at Doughoregan Manor were destroyed by fire. Damage was estimated at approximately $100,000. Four of the structures were over 250 years old.

50 Years Ago (week of July 25-31, 1943):

* In celebrating the third anniversary of the Elkridge Red Cross Production Unit, it was noted that the 60 ladies of that organization had produced a total of 6,296 garments for the regional Red Cross over three years.
