Michelin Corp. said yesterday it will move a major tire distribution facility to Belcamp from Elkridge, moving 250,000 square feet of warehouse occupancy to Harford County's Riverside Business Park.

"We will move sometime in August," said Athene Karis, an Akron, Ohio-based spokeswoman for the French tire company.

She said the company's move will not affect the estimated 15 employees at the Meadowridge Business Center facility in Elkridge, where Michelin's lease expired earlier this year.

"They are moving with the warehouse," Ms. Karis said.

The tire company will occupy the Pier One building, which is now empty. Michelin did not release terms of the lease.

George Harrison, Harford County's public information officer, said the county did not offer any incentive to lure Michelin, whose lease is one of the year's largest industrial deals in metropolitan Baltimore.

"We feel Harford County has enough to offer without doing that," he said. "Harford County was not terribly involved in it, as such."

Mr. Harrison said Pier One moved to a larger building near Aberdeen more than a year ago. He said Michelin subleased the building from Pier One.
