Appeals board approves communications tower

The Carroll Board of Zoning Appeals voted 2-1 yesterday to allow Cellular One of Washington/Baltimore to build a 250-foot communications tower on the Robert E. and Audrey J. Warner farm at 1418 Richardson Road, near Frizzellburg.

Board members William Law and Woodrow Raver voted in favor of the tower; Claude Rash voted against.

Several neighbors testified that the tower might cause health problems and would be an "eyesore" that would lower property values.

The tower is part of Cellular One's communication network. The company's business increased by 40 percent in Carroll last year, real estate manager Jeff Owens said.

FIRE

* New Windsor: New Windsor responded to an auto fire on Medford Road at 7:51 p.m. Wednesday. Units were out for 26 minutes.
