* 55-and over -- First place Danny's improved to 19-1 by defeating Ken Michael's (13-6) 11-7, 11-7 in Tuesday night league play.

Ken Ryland went 3-for-3, with a homer and two RBI for the winners. Teammate Bill Lovelace went 2-for-3 with two RBI. In the second game, Jay Soloman was 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBI.

Betty and Jake's is now in third place with 15-6, Spindler's is in fourth with a 11-9 record. Greyhounds (8-11), Arthur's (4-17), and Last Chance (0-20) represent the fifth, sixth, and seventh spots.

In Thursday night league play, first-place Danny's split with third-place Betty and Jakes 7-8, 15-2. In the first game, Fran Pilarski led the way for the winners by going 4-for-4. Don Brooks and Earle Orme supported Pilkarski's effort by going a combined 6-for-8.

Paul Burgee, Bob Kelly, Bill Lovelace all went 3-for-4 for Danny's in the second game. Arthur's downed Last Chance in two games, 17-12 and 12-0. Spindlers took two from Stewart AGIP 23-17 and 20-12, as George Kelch batted 5-for-6 in both games.

The county playoffs in 50-and-over and 55-and-over age brackets will begin Monday at Randazzo Park at 6 p.m.

Youth Basketball

* 12-and-under -- The Severna Park Green Hornets (11-0) clinched the Annapolis Youth Athletic Association title on Monday, tripping the Pearless Pacers,,41-17, in the season finale.

James Bowen scored a game-high 16 for the Hornets, and Deon Gough and Steve Spurlin added eight and six points, respectively. Thomas Hawkins scored four and David Williams, Kirk Barrett and Lehrman Dotson all had two points each. Jarrod Ross contributed a free throw.

Bowen once again led the way in Saturday's 40-28 win over the Summer Sonics, tallying nine points. Spurlin and Hawkins pitched in seven points each, and Sheldon Chase netted four points.

Gail Goodrich scored three points, and Ross, Dotson, Dwayne Banks, Jermal Watts, all had two. Charles Forbes added one point.

* The Lake Waterford High School League playoffs begin tomorrow at Lake Waterford Park in Pasadena.

At 6 p.m. The Eagles will face the Seahawks, Southern will take on North County, and Old Mill will battle The Trolls. At 7 p.m. Runnin Rebels takes on Meade, Severna Park will play Davidsonville Downs.

At 9 p.m. Arlington Baptist squares off against Glen Burnie, Schweppes takes on Chesapeake, and defending champion Arundel meets St. Mary's.
