A 63-year-old Baltimore woman was killed yesterday morning when she fell asleep at the wheel of her car and hit a guardrail on Route 97 near Veterans Highway in Millersville, police said.

Nila Marie Pomarzynski, of the 5500 block of Heatherwood Place, was driving a 1989 Oldsmobile north on Route 97 at 8 a.m. when she fell asleep and drifted onto the shoulder of the road and hit a guardrail, police said.

The car came back into the northbound lanes and was hit by a 1993 Toyota truck also going north on Route 97. Both vehicles slid into the median strip and stopped, police said.

The driver and the passenger in the Toyota had minor injurieand were taken to North Arundel Hospital, where they were treated and released, police said.

Ms. Pomarzynski, who was on her way home from her job as nurse at the Meadows Recovery Center in Gambrills, was pronounced dead shortly after the accident, police said.
