Church starts Phase II

Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church in Severna Park is beginning Phase II of an extensive building project, which

includes two large rooms to accommodate overflow homeless people from area shelters.

The church earlier this year completed the first of a three-phase, $6 million project, which doubled worship space with a 575-seat sanctuary addition and a new educational wing.

About two years ago, the church began planning for an extensive 10-year building project. The first phase of the expansion, which cost several million dollars, took just over a year.

Phase II, approved by the 2,000-member congregation earlier this month, includes paying off $250,000 worth of Phase II items already completed, including a serving kitchen and the steeple.

When a Presbyterian church is built, part of the financing is delegated for missions beyond the community. Phase II's mission component will include support of new church development in Odenton.
