Ohio man charged with lying about armed robbery attempt

A 20-year-old Ohio man was charged with lying to police after he allegedly admitted he fabricated a story that two knife-carrying men had robbed him of $200 in Columbia, Howard County police said.

Kevin Ray Baylor of Mogadore, Ohio, an employee of R&R International Inc. in Ohio, was charged with making a false report to a police officer early yesterday during a police interview, police said.

About 3:30 a.m. yesterday, Mr. Baylor reported that as he installed computers at the local R&R on Old Annapolis Road in Oakland Mills, two men knocked on the office door, police said. When he opened the door, he said he saw two men armed with a knife and demanding his money.

After the robbers stole $200, they ran away, he told police.

During the investigation, a state police helicopter was used to try and locate the two alleged robbers.

But no suspects were found, police said.

Police said that later, during an interview, Mr. Baylor recanted the story.

Nothing was discovered missing from R&R in Columbia.
