BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Jose Mercedes allowed five hits over 8 2/3 innings and Rafael Chaves got the final out for his 15th save as the Bowie Baysox stopped the Binghamton Mets, 3-0, in a Double-A Eastern League game last night.

Bowie took a 1-0 lead in the third when Jason Alstead drove in catcher Gregg Zaun. T. R. Lewis scored on Kyle Washington's groundout in the fourth for a 2-0 lead.

Edgar Alfonzo's bases-empty home run to left center in the sixth closed out the scoring.
