Man charged with assault in pointing of rifle

A Glen Burnie man was charged with assault and carrying a concealed deadly weapon after police said he pointed a rifle at a 16-year-old and threatened to shoot him Tuesday.

According to the police report, a 16-year-old was standing outside his home in the 7900 block of Elvaton Court at 9:30 p.m. when David Lee Powell, 18, walked up and pointed a rifle at him. Mr. Powell reportedly asked the boy if he knew how it felt to be shot between the eyes.

The 16-year-old ran into his home and called police. Soon, officers picked up Mr. Powell on Hospital Drive and searched his duffel bag. They found the .22-caliber rifle and 50 rounds of ammunition.

Mr. Powell told the officers that he carried the rifle because drug dealers were out to get him. He said the 16-year-old had been bothering his girlfriend.
