BG&E dance to benefit food bank PASADENA

It's a down-home, dancin', crab-pickin', carnival-visitin' type weekend in the Pasadena area this weekend.

* Tickets still are available for a dance sponsored by employees of Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. to benefit the Anne Arundel Food Bank. The dance is tomorrow from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Orchard Beach Volunteer Fire Company hall on Solley Road.

The $7.50 cost per person includes beer, setups and a disc jockey. Tickets will be available at the door.

The Anne Arundel Food Bank is a one-man collection center operated by Bruce Michalec. The bank distributes food, through Operation Food Sharing, to 50 county church and nonprofit pantries serving 30,000 people, event organizer Barbara Shortridge said.

"All of the money we raise at this dance will be used to purchase food items needed by the Anne Arundel Food Bank," she said.

* The Cancer Resource and Support Center, Inc., based in the Pasadena area, is sponsoring a crab feast tomorrow from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Severna Park Elks Lodge, Truck House and Jennings roads in Severna Park.

Tickets are $27 for adults, $13 for kids under 12. Music and a cash bar will be featured.

* The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society is sponsoring a benefit crab feast tomorrow from 7 p.m. to midnight at Kurtz's Pleasure Beach.

Tickets are $25 and include steamed crabs, crab soup, beef barbecue, hot dogs, cole slaw, vegetables, watermelon, desserts, beer and soda.

Proceeds will be used to help create an interpretive farm for children at the Benson-Hammond House. For more information, call 437-5629.

* Only two evenings left to enjoy the sights and sounds of the annual Riviera Beach Firemen's Carnival.

The midway, food and rides will be open from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. today and tomorrow on the firehouse grounds, 8506 Fort Smallwood Road.

The fire fighter's parade, featuring equipment from all over the state, bands and marching groups will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2462 is having an end-of-the-month party from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the post home, 1720 Bayside Beach Road.

Admission is $7 and includes a hot platter, beer, setups and music for dancing.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 7859 Tick Neck Road, is accepting applications for vacation Bible school, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday to July 30.

The program, open to children ages 4 through grade 7, will include worship, scripture stories, music, crafts, outdoor games and a snack.

Parents and children will be invited to a presentation of the week's activities at 7 p.m. July 30.
