Van burns; damage put at $5,000

A fire at 3449 Baker Road in Winfield caused $5,000 damage to a 1986 Chevrolet van owned by Steven Hoover.

Ten firefighters from Winfield and Community Volunteer Fire Department put out the blaze, which was discovered at 2:51 a.m. Saturday, in 15 minutes.

No injuries were reported.

Deputy fire marshals said the blaze originated between the -- and the engine of the van, and they listed the cause as accidental.

Mr. Hoover told investigators the van had been parked at his home more than two hours before the discovery of the fire.

Firefighters were able to the keep the fire from spreading to adjacent properties.

FIRE

* Mount Airy: Mount Airy firefighters were called to a brush fire on South Main Street at 1:31 a.m. yesterday. They were out for 25 minutes.

* Taylorsville: Winfield and Mount Airy responded to a fire alarm on Dotson's Ridge Drive at 9:24 p.m. Monday. Units were out for 15 minutes.
