Bethlehem Steel strike continues

Both sides in the strike at Bethlehem Steel's Sparrows Point shipyard met yesterday with a federal mediator to try to come up with a contract compromise.

About 600 workers walked off their jobs Saturday over wages and profit sharing. The company has offered a $950 bonus to employees who sign 3 1/2 -year contracts, but the contract does not include a raise for workers or guarantee the profit sharing workers now receive.

Negotiations were expected to continue today.
