Gala Spinaway wins at Laurel after layoff

Gala Spinaway, a former champion Maryland-bred, returned to winning form after an extended layoff yesterday when he won the $35,000 Chase Me Stakes at Laurel Race Course.

Ridden by Greg Hutton, Gala Spinaway rallied from fourth and prevailed by a half-length over Who Wouldn't. Ibex, the favorite, finished fourth.

In the co-featured Snow Plow Stakes, jockey Billy Moorefield won his second added-money race in two days when he guided Smart 'n Noble to a 3 3/4 -length victory over maiden Another Dessa.

On Saturday, Moorefield had won the Skipat Stakes aboard Tripp Trial.
