Recreation and parks board gets new member

The Sykesville Town Council appointed James C. Boyer to the Recreation and Parks board last week.

Mr. Boyer, of Hawk Ridge Lane, will serve on the six-member board chaired by Councilman William R. "Bill" Hall Jr. During the next few months, board members will focus on planning Burkett Park, for which the town recently received a $18,600 state grant. Mr. Hall said about 30 residents had volunteered to help with the project.

The council approved preliminary plans for the seven-acre site on Norris Avenue on July 12.

Boat equipment reported stolen

Richard C. Fryfogle reported the theft of $1,645 in marine equipment from a boat stored at his home in Sykesville, according to state police at Westminster.

Police said engines, life jackets and a gas tank were reported stolen from the Streaker Road residence Friday.

FIRES

* Winfield: Trucks from the Winfield station took 54 minutes to extin

guish a truck fire on Baker Road after being called out at 2:51 a.m. Saturday.

* Sykesville: Trucks from the Sykesville station took only 17 minutes to put out a field fire on Route 32 after responding at 2:58 p.m. Friday.

* Sykesville: Equipment from the Sykesville and Winfield companies responded to alarms on Londontown Boulevard at 4:42 p.m. Thursday and 7:19 a.m. Friday.

Each time, they were back in service in less than five minutes.
