Saturday: Essex Middle River Chapter Maryland Saltwater Sportfishermen's Association Bluefish Tournament based out of Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cash prizes for first- , second- and third-heaviest bluefish. For entry forms and more information, call (410) 282-1262.

July 28: Monthly meeting of the Maryland Fly Anglers, Ridge Garden Apartments clubhouse, Old Harford Road and Putty Hill Avenue, 7:30 p.m. Speaker will be Capt. Brady Bounds on fishing the Chesapeake Bay, the Potomac and lower Patuxent rivers. The public is welcome. Call (410) 825-2695.

HUNTING/SHOOTING

Thursday: Department of Natural Resources open house to discuss Maryland's black bear population and what direction the state's management plan should take. This is an informal, educational meeting and not a hearing on regulations or proposals. Mount Nebo Wildlife Management Area in Oakland, Garrett County, 6 to 9 p.m.

Friday-Sunday: Buck Fever! The Hunting Show, exhibition building, Howard County Fairgrounds, West Friendship. Seminars on bow hunting, black powder, firearms, venison cooking, etc. Featured speaker will be Dan Fitzgerald. Contests, exhibits, outfitters, taxidermists, cash prizes. Show opens at 4 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday. Admission is $6, with children under 12 free. Call (410) 922-5549.

Through Sept. 26: Chesapeake Changes, a natural history exhibit that focuses on the geology, geography, wildlife and human settlement in the 64,000-square-mile watershed of the bay, Explorers Hall of the National Geographic Society, 17 and M streets NW, Washington, D.C.
