Development plan mulled

The Greater Severna Park Council's new Planning Coalition has been meeting with county officials to draft a development plan for the community.

Planning is in initial stages, council president Pat Troy told the council Tuesday night.

She said the council's community survey, which asked residents about their goals for the area, has put them "way ahead of the game."

"Because of the survey, we don't have to accept what county planners say we want. We have data on what the community itself says it wants," she said.

Council member Dan Nataf, a statistician and a professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, analyzed the data from the survey, mailed to 10,000 Severna Park homes in November 1991. About 10 percent of the homes surveyed responded to the eight-page questionnaire.

Ms. Troy has been talking to various community groups about the plan to address development issues before more development occurs.
