July 14, 1993

A burglar took advantage of an unlocked door, and stole jewelry and cash worth more than $17,000 from the bedroom of a New Windsor resident Sunday night, state police reported yesterday.

The victim, of the 400 block of High St., called state police when she discovered the break-in about 7 a.m. Monday when she returned home from work.

She said the intruder gained entry to her home through a second-floor sun porch and made off with an assortment of jewelry, including five watches, gold rings, gold chains, earrings, bracelets and pendants. One of the watches was an antique, she said.

She told police the burglar also stole about $300 in cash, including some rolled coins.

The victim said she had left her home about 6:30 p.m. Sunday to go to work and found her bedroom ransacked when she returned.

Police said they have no suspects in the case.
