2 men charged with attempted robbery at track

Howard County police have charged two men with trying to rob a Virginia man outside the Laurel Race Course last weekend.

Johnny Joseph Doak, 26, of Bowie and Theodore Blaine Serig, 28, of Laurel were charged with attempted robbery, assault and possession of a deadly weapon. Mr. Doak is being held in lieu of $1,500 bond, and Mr. Serig is being held in lieu of $2,500 bond at the Howard County Detention center, a correctional officer said.

The 37-year-old victim was not injured.

Police said three people approached the man at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday and demanded his money at the parking lot outside the race track at North Laurel Road and Washington Boulevard. But the victim refused, ran and contacted Anne Arundel County police.

When police arrived, they found two of the three would-be robbers in the area, police said. The third man got away. The victim identified the two men, who were taken into custody as the men who tried to rob him.

Police said they recovered a knife from one man.
