Baseball Major League Baseball -- Announced that NBC Sports executive Ken Schanzer will head baseball's new television operation, a partnership with NBC and ABC that will oversee all major-league Anetwork broadcasts. Schanzer, 48, will begin his new job Aug. 2.
National League -- Announced Los Angeles Dodgers P Ramon Martinez has withdrawn his appeal of a five-game suspension for throwing at Charlie Hayes of the Colorado Rockies on June 15.
Orioles -- Placed 3B Leo Gomez on the 15-day DL with a cyst on his left wrist and tendinitis of the left wrist. Activated OF Brady Anderson from the DL.
Cincinnati Reds -- Optioned P Mike Anderson to Triple-A Indianapolis. Recalled OF Keith Gordon from Double-A
