Bull knocks down Westminster farmhand

July 09, 1993

A 35-year-old man who works for a Westminster farmer was taken by state police helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center at 6 p.m. yesterday after being knocked down by a bull. Ambulance personnel at the scene would not release the man's name.

Witnesses said the man walked away after the Holstein bull knocked him down and that he talked with paramedics at the scene. The man works at Wakefield Farm, owned by Charles M. Shriver Jr. at 159 Ruth Shriver Road west of Westminster.

Mr. Shriver and his wife, Ruth, would not talk about the accident.

The bull charged the man while the man was herding cows ouof a field to the barn for the afternoon milking, said Jeremy Williams and Ernie Mullinix, who also work for Mr. Shriver. The man was "teasing" the bull, Mr. Mullinix said.
