Yard waste collected weekly in Westminster

The City of Westminster will pick up grass clippings, weeds and garden waste for homeowners who currently are receiving solid waste recyclables pickup by the city's contract hauler.

Yard waste will be collected from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays through Nov. 1. The material should be placed at curbside or other collection points by 6 a.m. on Wednesdays, but no earlier than noon the day before. Material must be in clear plastic bags or containers that are no larger than a bushel basket.

POLICE

* Westminster: Three men were arrested for allegedly trespassing on railroad property while planning a softball game on Saturday. John Fisher, 41, Clarence Edward Hanson, 42, and Edward Scott Hanson, 23, allegedly were standing on the tracks of the Maryland Midland Railway near Green Street when they were observed by police and arrested. Officials said they had no permanent addresses for the three, who were released on personal recognizance.

A woman who lives on Buck Cash Drive told Westminster police someone punctured the tires on her van and scratched the vehicle while it was parked near her house Friday. She estimated the loss at $2,300.

Two West Main Street residents told city police that their cars were burglarized and property was stolen from the vehicles, which were parked near their homes Friday. One man told police that property valued at $210 was taken from his car. The other man reported that articles valued at $453 were removed from his car.

A Taneytown man also told city police that someone stole property valued at $1,100 from his vehicle while it was parked in the first block of E. Main St. Friday.

Another East Main Street resident reported to police that someone stole a crab pole from the boat at the rear of his house Sunday. Tires on the boat trailer and a truck also were damaged. The victim estimated the damage at $110.

Several articles valued at $1,300 were stolen from a car owned by a man on West Main Street while it was parked near his house June 30.

FIRE LOG

* Westminster: Westminster and New Windsor firefighters investigated an electrical odor on Ridge Road at 11:26 p.m. Sunday. Units were out for 33 minutes.

* Westminster: The Westminster and New Windsor companies responded to a fire alarm on St. Mark Way at 1:20 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 25 minutes.

* Westminster: Westminster responded to wires down on Westmoreland Street at 5:21 p.m. Friday. Units were out for one hour.

* Westminster: Westminster and Reese responded to a fire alarm on East Green Street at 2:33 a.m. Wednesday. Units were out for 25 minutes.
