Water main breaks in city

July 06, 1993

A water main break at a construction site next to the city Detention Center, early today sent thousands of gallons of water fTC cascading down the Fallsway, Guilford Avenue and under the Jones Falls Expressway.

Several area residents reported no water shortly after 5 a.m.

It appeared that more than one water line may have ruptured, as ankle-deep water turned the area into lakes.

City water department repair crews were delayed from reaching the source of the leak by a locked chain link fence surrounding the site, where a new booking and intake facility for the Dentention Center is under construction in the 300 block of E. Madison St.
