Orioles update

After splitting a four-game series in Chicago, the Orioles have won 22 of their past 30. They lost two of three in Kansas City on the first trip this year, then beat the Royals two of three in Baltimore. The Orioles are in the midst of 22 straight games against Western Division teams, against whom they have a 20-21 record. Despite going 0-for-3 yesterday, David Segui is hitting .389 (21-for-54) in his past 16 games and has 17 multi-hit games and a team-leading .317 batting average. At the conclusion of this series the Orioles return home, where they will play their next 11 and 21 of their next 27 games.

Royals update

The Royals, tied with the White Sox atop the Western Division, are in the midst of 21 straight games against the Blue Jays, Orioles and Tigers. Despite last night's win over Toronto, the Royals have lost five of their past nine and 14 of their past 24. They have played more one-run decisions than any team in the major leagues (22-15), but have lost six of the past eight decided by one run after winning 11 of the previous 12. Second baseman Chico Lind (wrist), first baseman Wally Joyner (middle knuckle, right hand) and Pichardo (sprained ankle) are nursing injuries.
