Construction to begin soon on New Windsor Middle School

Construction will begin soon for the New Windsor Middle School, to be built on Green Valley Road near the school it will replace.

The Board of Education awarded a contract yesterday for $7.5 million to Charles J. Frank Inc. as the general contractor for the school. The state will pay $2.7 million of the cost, and the county will sell bonds to pay the remaining $4.8 million.

The school is expected to open in September 1995.

Among the features are a technology education center. The center will include computers and other equipment to expose students to technology, such as robotics, drafting and videography.

Truck driver released from Shock Trauma

The 37-year-old Thurmont man who overturned a truck filled with 3,000 gallons of liquid fertilizer was released Monday from the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Elmer Gene Wolford, a seasonal truck driver for Willard's Agri-Service, had missed a left turn onto Sams Creek Road near New Windsor and flipped the truck. The accident closed Route 31 for nearly four hours Monday.
