Chapin receives Harvard degree

Stephen R. Chapin Jr. of Westminster was awarded a master's degree in business from the Harvard Business School in Cambridge, Mass., this month.

He graduated from Westminster High School in 1981 and the Naval Academy in 1985. After leaving Annapolis he served two tours of duty in the Persian Gulf and was assigned as naval liaison to the U.S. House of Representatives.

After leaving the service, he founded a computer company which licenses its products to Curtis Manufacturing Inc. of Jaffrey, N.H.

He has taken a position in Washington with McKinsey and Co., an international consulting firm.

He is married to the former Julie Engle of Ellicott City. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Stephen R. Chapin Sr. of Westminster.

West Middle honors top academic students

West Middle School recently presented a number of eight grade students with the Presidential Academic Fitness Award. To earn the award, students must attain a "B-plus" or better grade average and must score in the 80th percentile or higher on the California Achievement Test.

POLICE LOG

* Westminster: A Westminster Texaco Station employee reported Sunday that someone pumped about $15.50 worth of gas into a vehicle at gas station on Railroad Avenue without paying.

A Hampstead resident told Westminster police Saturday that someone damaged her car while it was parked at Cranberry Mall. The total damage was unknown.
