North Arundel Hospital plans Camp Superkids

In conjunction with the American Lung Association, North Arundel Hospital is sponsoring "Camp Superkids" day camp for asthmatic children at Anne Arundel Community College.

Camp Superkids offers asthmatic children ages 6 to 12 a chance to gain physical confidence and a better understanding of asthma.

The camp, held at the Anne Arundel Community College, runs from from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Aug. 2-6.

Respiratory therapists from the hospital, pediatric nurses and junior volunteers will direct events that combine asthma education and recreational activities such as crafts, games and swimming.

The last day of camp will be reserved for an all-day field trip on the Harbor Queen in Annapolis, followed by a cookout in Quiet Waters Park.

Parent orientation will be held in the hospital's third-floor conference center from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 26. Information: 787-4367.

Phone line gives water quality data

The county's health department has a phone line residents can call to acquire weekly water sample results as measured by fecal coliform.

Call 222-7999, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The information offered includes the emergency closing of creeks or portions of creeks; the averaged weekly results for 78 stations routinely sampled by the health department for fecal coliform; and a list of phone numbers that can assist residents in reporting a variety of water quality problems.

The phone system is an information-only system. Callers cannot be transferred to other phone numbers.

Phone line information is available from sample stations on Rock Creek, Stoney Creek, Bodkin Creek, the Magothy River, the Severn River, the South River, the Rhode River, the West River and Herring Bay.
