Intruder rapes woman, 59

Howard County police are searching for a man who entered the apartment of a 59-year-old Ellicott City woman yesterday and raped her.

The attack occurred about 2:30 a.m. when a man entered the woman's unsecured sliding glass door in the Great Oaks Apartment complex, police said.

Once inside, the intruder confronted the woman in her bedroom, displayed a knife and raped her. He then left through the rear sliding glass door, police said.

The rapist is described as a muscular white or Asian male, in his late 20s, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and with black spiked hair, police said. He was wearing a white shirt and dark shorts.

The victim was treated at Howard County General Hospital, police said.

*Ellicott City: Someone stole a $400 AM-FM CD player and four silver and black rims valued at $760 from a 1991 Jeep.

3000 block of Patuxent Overlook Court: Someone smashed a mailbox between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. May 30.

11900 block of Frederick Road: Someone knocked down a mailbox post, which had three mailboxes on it, between 7 p.m. June 24 and 8:30 a.m. June 25. The mailboxes weren't damaged.

*Elkridge: 6000 block of Hanover Road: A resident who let out the dog about 3:30 a.m. Friday, saw a tall, thin man standing in the front yard. He walked away when the resident went outside.
