June 28, 1993

Forty teen-agers from Russia and Ukraine gathered at the Chartwell Country Club yesterday afternoon after spending a week in Washington learning about the U.S. government.

The youths are spending a month in the United States on a program sponsored by the U.S. Information Agency and spearheaded by Sen. Bill Bradley, a New Jersey Democrat.

Anne Arundel County families are playing host to 20 of the 16- and 17-year-olds from Russia and another 20 from Ukraine. Thirty more students are staying with families in Northern Virginia.

The students spent the first week in Washington learning about democracy and the government in the program that was organized by the International Educational Forum, a group that promotes exchanges to better foreign relations.

Host families invited the teen-agers to a reception in their honor at the country club in Severna Park.
