Airman Scott Joseph Dennis of Sparks was named the Honor Recruit of Company 052 and awarded a Certificate of Meritorious Achievement by the Commanding Officer of the Recruit Training Command at his graduation ceremony from the United States Naval Training Center in San Diego in April.

Sen. Paul Sarbanes and humanitarian Bea Gaddy of Baltimore received honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees at Towson State University's commencement ceremonies on May 23.

Sally Thorner, a former anchorwoman for WMAR-TV, is the recipient of the 1993 Golda Meir Club Award, presented by the Women's Division, Israel Bonds of Maryland.

Raymond A. Egner, a resident of the Meridian Homewood Nursing Home, was presented with a plaque, pin and citation for his 70 years of Masonic service by the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Maryland.

James D. Tschechtelin, president of Baltimore City Community College, received the Apex Award from the Maryland Commission for Women and the Maryland Statewide Action Agenda Steering Committee in recognition of his commitment to equal opportunity.

John Henderson of Dundalk, a student at Patapsco High School, has been selected to represent Baltimore as a member of the 1993 Spirit of America National Honor Band that will tour and perform in Europe.

Liz Reiley, chair of the social studies department at the Institute of Notre Dame, has been awarded a fellowship by the National Endowment for the Humanities to participate in the 1993 program of Summer Seminars for School Teachers.

Heather Spector, a senior at St. Paul's School for Girls, was named a Hunt Leadership Scholar by Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.

William A. York 3rd of Cockeysville, a junior at the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business, received the Outstanding Achievement in Accounting Award from the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Three Maryland students who will enter the University of Maryland this fall are recipients of the Adler Group Journalism Scholarship awards. They are Taryn Szerensits, a senior at C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air; Curtis Iseli, a senior at Paint Branch High School in Silver Spring and Deborah Sharon Drucker, a senior at Centennial High School in Ellicott City.
