NBA -- Announced that Frederick Lacey, a former federal judge who handled the NBA's investigation last year of Michael Jordan's gambling, will assist the league in its inquiry of Richard Esquinas, the San Diego businessman who claimed to have won $1.25 million in golf bets from the Chicago Bulls star.

Indiana Pacers -- Announced that Gar Heard, interim coach of the Dallas Mavericks last season, will be hired as an assistant coach.

Washington Bullets -- Traded F Harvey Grant to the Portland Trail Blazers for C Kevin Duckworth. Renounced the rights to G Ledell Eackles.

Westchester Stallions (USBL) -- Activated G Kurk Lee (Dunbar, Towson State) from the taxi squad.


Auburn -- Announced the resignation of women's assistant basketball coach Greg Haddox, effective July 31. Named Gena Morris women's assistant basketball coach.
