Leg wear can get an outfit moving IN STYLE

Think of leg wear as a cheap thrill.

For less than $20, you can change an outfit from casual to dressy. You can show off your sense of humor, give insight into your personality or jazz up last season's investment buy.

As usual, spring-summer leg wear takes its fashion cues from ready-to-wear. When designers jumped on the short skirt bandwagon, leg wear manufacturers offered women imperfection-hiding opaque options, with Lycra for added control.

Now that skirts are long and slit and pants are popular, we have the trouser sock and the textured tight.

"The interesting thing about spring-summer is that more women are really turning to trousers, and socks are booming right now," says Gayle Goodman, marketing director for Hot Sox. "Trouser socks are more popular than knee-highs."

The ankle-skimming socks also can be worn with skirts that hang below mid-calf.

Also popular for summer are textured hose -- crocheted, mesh, macramed. They look nice peeking through the slit of a long skirt and can help cool off a pair of ultrashort hot pants.
