Art Center offers variety of programs

The Columbia Art Center in the Village of Long Reach is offering several new programs this summer. Information: 730-0075.

* "The Art of Working With Wood" will be offered from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Aug. 16. Participants will learn how to use hand and machine tools, how to select quality wood, and how to cut and join wood.

* "Stained Glass Studio" will meet from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through Aug. 3. Participants will learn how to use three-dimensional construction techniques to produce stained glass designs for home decoration.

* "Marbling on Paper and Fiber" will meet from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday through July 13. Participants will learn about marbling, a printing process where acrylic paints are floated on thickened water solution to create colorful designs, and create stationery, wrapping paper and scarfs.

* "Fresh Cut Roses" will meet from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. July 8. Participants will learn how to select fresh roses and preserve them, and learn cutting, wiring, arranging and tubing.

* "Summer Garden Basket" will meet from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. July 15. Participants will learn techniques of fresh floral design while creating a basket of summer flowers.

* "The Tropical Display" will meet from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. July 22. Participants will create an arrangement with a jungle motif using fresh flowers, tropical foliage, moss and branches.

* Oakland Mills: 5600 block of Stevens Forest Road: A man wearing blue jeans was seen sitting in a lawn chair and peering into a bedroom window at about 10 p.m. Friday. The man fled carrying the lawn chair.
