Hampstead planning panel to rule on Savannah Estates

The Hampstead Planning and Zoning Commission will meet tonight at 7 p.m. in the town hall, 1034 S. Carroll Street, Hampstead.

Town Clerk Patricia Warner said the agenda includes consideration of final approval of Savannah Estates, a proposed 4.35-acre subdivision of 10 single-family lots on Upper Beckleysville Road across from Summit Street.

A play area for the McDonald's restaurant is also on the agenda. Neil Ridgely, Carroll County's program manager of landscaping and forest conservation, will speak about forest conservation policy.

Manchester Fish Derby set for Saturday

Children age 15 and younger may participate in Manchester's 1993 Fish Derby Saturday at the pond in Christmas Tree Park.

Anglers may register on the day of the derby for $1. Nine- to 15-year-olds may register from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and fish from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Kids ages 8 and younger may register from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., and fish from 10:30 a.m.

until noon.

Prizes will be awarded in each age group for the first fish, the last fish, the heaviest fish, the longest fish, and the most fish.

Councilwoman Charlotte Collett said awards are tentatively scheduled to be presented at the town council meeting on July 13.

The pond will be closed until derby day, to allow fish to spawn and grow unmolested.
