Night anglers reminded to obey rules

Maryland Natural Resources Police remind anglers who are enjoying the night fishing hours at Carroll County's Piney Run Park to observe Maryland fishing and boating regulations. The reminder also applies to participants in night fishing events scheduled on Wednesdays from July to October.

On June 16 during the night fishing hours from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. at the 300-acre lake, NRP officers issued six tickets and 31 warnings. NRP Sgt. William R. Schuler said most of the warnings were for lack of proper navigational lights.

Lights are required to be displayed on all vessels operating between sunset and sunrise. All motorboats, including those with electric motors, must display a combination red and green bow light and an all-round (360 degrees) white stern light.

Evening fishing hours at the Carroll County Park lake are scheduled for the following Wednesdays: July 7, July 21, Aug. 4, Aug. 18, Sept. 1, Sept. 15 and Oct. 6.

For more information on Piney Run Park, call 795-3274 and on Maryland boating and fishing regulations, call the Maryland Natural Resources Police at (410) 356-7060.

Eldersburg: Sykesville, Gamber and West Friendship of Howard County and Liberty Road of Baltimore County responded to a report of a house struck by lightning on Armistice Way at 9:53 p.m. Sunday. Units were out for 30 minutes.
