Students urged to register for summer reading program

Young readers are encouraged to register for "Summer Quest '93," a summer reading program at the Laurel Library.

Participants will receive a "Summer Quest" passport to record the names of the books they read.

For every 10 books they read, youngsters can receive coupons from Wild World Amusement Park or McDonald's restaurants. Certificates will also be presented to all participants.

Laurel:9300 block of Gorman Road: Two suspects were seen fleeing a gray 1982 Ford Mustang that had been stripped of two speakers around 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday. The victim chased the suspects but lost them in the dark. The speakers were valued at $300.

Jessup:8300 block of Washington Blvd.: A green power lawn mower, valued at $105, was stolen from the back porch of a residence between the afternoon of June 6 and 10:30 a.m. on June 13. The mower was secured with a chain and padlock when it was last used.

8000 block of Washington Blvd.: An 8-week-old female German shepherd was stolen from a fenced yard between 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The dog was black with light-colored patches on its feet, head and nose.

7300 block of Crestmont Ave.: An acquaintance stole a guest's room key at the Susse Chalet hotel and then stole golf clubs, TC pair of boots, a watch and an undetermined amount of cash from the room between 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
