Even though Trevor Buck traveled about 2,600 miles to play in JTC yesterday's North-South All-Star boys lacrosse game at Johns Hopkins, the high school senior quickly made himself at home.

Buck, who played attack for St. Ignatius Prep near San Francisco, scored the tying goal in the fourth quarter and assisted on another as the North team rallied from an 11-3 halftime deficit to beat the South squad, 14-12, at Homewood Field.

"The South just seemed to slow down in the second half and we moved the ball around more efficiently," said Buck, who was selected as the game's Most Valuable Player. "I just did what I thought I needed to do."

Buck, who has family ties in Towson, plans to play for Division III national champion Hobart in the fall. He finished with two goals and an assist.

The North team began its comeback at the start of the second half by scoring five unanswered goals to cut the South's lead to 11-8.

Goalie Anthony Tufano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and the North defense held the South to only one goal in the third quarter and keeper Greg Cattrano (Ward Melville, N.Y.) did not allow a goal in the fourth.

Buck assisted on Ken Sussi's goal with 7:51 left to bring North within 12-11. He then picked up a loose ball and scored 44 seconds later to tie the game. North teammate Joe Donovan scored the go-ahead goal with 4:07 remaining.

Jake Bergey (Tatnall, Pa.) led the South team with three goals. He scored two in the first quarter when the South took an early 7-1 lead.

Loyola's Mike Keeney led the South's local players with one goal and two assists and Towson's Mike Ford added a goal and an assist.
