* Carroll Post 31, American Legion, announces plans for a parade of military and veterans' organizations preceding the dedication of a large service flag presented to the county by the post in honor of the men and women now serving in the Armed Forces from Carroll County. -- Democratic Advocate, June 11, 1943.

* The festival which was held here on Thursday and Saturday nights for the benefit of the Red Cross was quite a success. The Boy Scouts of Westminster furnished the music on Thursday night, which was greatly appreciated by all. And on Saturday night, the crowd was larger than was ever known at Keymar, about 70 automobiles being present. The proceeds amounted to over $200, clearing over $100 for the Red Cross. -- Union Bridge Pilot, June 14, 1918.

* One of our citizens suggested that Independence Day should not be suffered to pass without some exhibition of patriotic interest in the important anniversary. The suggestion is praiseworthy. Now let some of our public-spirited citizens interest themselves in the matter and get up a demonstration worthy of the occasion. Should nothing better be proposed, we suggest that the Westminster Band and Fire Department get up a procession, to be followed with a citizens' meeting in Belle Grove Square, at which the "Declaration" shall be read and a short address or two delivered. -- American Sentinel, June 17, 1893.
