Planning commission approves sewer line to Y

June 18, 1993

The county Planning and Zoning Commission agreed this week to amend the county's water and sewer master plan to extend lines to the Carroll County Family YMCA.

The YMCA, on a 10.3-acre site on Washington Road, was initially denied water and sewer service by Westminster officials because the facility was outside the city's planned service area.

It has operated with on-site wells for water and an on-site septic system for sewage disposal.

Since its opening last summer, the YMCA has experienced water and sewage problems, county officials said.

Water has tested positive for bacteria, and the facility is required to provide bottled water for drinking, officials said.

Bobbi Moser, a county planner, said the county commissioners will hold a public hearing on the request, along with several others, this summer.

She said the state will have final say on whether water and sewer lines should be extended.
