2-year-old girl drowns in family's backyard pool

A 2-year-old Edgewater girl drowned Tuesday evening after she fell or jumped into her family's back yard pool, county police said yesterday.

According to the police report, Ronald J. Napier Jr. found his daughter, Kristi Lynn Napier, at the bottom of their above-ground pool behind their home in the 200 block of Oakwood Road.

When he pulled her out of about five-feet of water at 5:52 p.m., she was not breathing.

Police said no one noticed when the girl fell or jumped in the pool while she was playing in her backyard with friends.

Doctors at Anne Arundel Medical Center were able to get her to breathe again, but she died later at Johns Hopkins Children's Center, police said.

Woman reports acquaintance rape

A 26-year-old Annapolis woman reported late Sunday night that she was raped by an acquaintance, city police said.

When police arrived at her Bowman Court apartment shortly before midnight, she said she had been assaulted. She was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center for treatment, police said.

The assault is still under investigation.
