Woman scares burglar from her apartment

A 68-year-old woman scared off a burglar who tried to climb in the window of her apartment in the Pinewood Senior Citizens Complex Saturday night, county police said yesterday.

Asleep in a chair in her first-floor apartment in the 7900 block Benesch Circle shortly before midnight, the woman was awakened by a man coming through her window. The woman screamed and the man picked up a flower pot, but dropped it and backed out of the window.

Police said the woman had left her window open about 4 inches. The suspect had made several cuts in the screen, then lifted the window and started to climb in.
