2 drivers seriously injured in crash

Two drivers were flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center following an accident at Medford and Stone Chapel roads about 11:25 a.m. Wednesday.

State police said Mary L. Marks, 74, of Manchester, was driving a Plymouth Acclaim on Medford Road when she failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a Toyota Celica operated by Christopher Elliott, 27, of New Windsor.

Ms. Marks was in serious and stable condition, and Mr. Elliott was in fair and stable condition yesterday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles and had to be removed by the crew of a Westminster fire engine.

Police said the operators of both cars were wearing seat belts, but Ms. Marks was thrown forward and her head and face struck the windshield.

Cpl. R. Scott Yinger said charges are pending against Ms. Marks.
