Jail inmate is stabbed

An inmate at the county detention center was stabbed in th eye during an argument with another inmate yesterday morning, county police reported.

Richard Anthony Anderson, 41, who is awaiting trial on charges of misdemeanor theft and failure to appear in court, was stabbed in the eye with a broomstick during the argument in Dorm 3 about 11:55 a.m., said police spokesman Officer Terry Crowe.

Officer Crowe said Mr. Anderson was delivering supplies from the jail commissary to another inmate's cell when the two began arguing.

Mr. Anderson was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital for treatment and will be returned to the jail, Officer Crowe said.

Police are still investigating the incident, he said, and no arrests have been made.
