Farm considered as model plane site

Carroll's Recreation and Parks Board will visit the former Spiegel farm near Union Mills, a possible site to be used by the Westminster AeroModelers Club, on June 17 .

The board will take citizens' comment about the site at its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. June 23 at the Carroll County Education Center.

The county-owned farm is near Kowomu Trail and Rinehart Road.

Club members currently fly radio-controlled planes at the John Owings Landfill off Route 97. Some neighbors have complained about the noise.

Man charged with assault on pregnant girlfriend

Curtis Lee Frisby, 28, of the first block of E. Main St. in Westminster, was being held Tuesday evening on $110,000 full bond following his arrest Friday on multiple drug and assault charges.

Police said they were called to a house on East Main Street and told by Jodi Daroja, a former girlfriend of Mr. Frisby's, that he broke into the apartment after she placed his clothing outside the door with a note requesting him not to return.

The victim said Mr. Frisby grabbed her around the neck and choked her until she was unconscious, police said.

Ms. Daroja told police she saw the man smoking crack cocaine when she regained consciousness and attempted to escape but was grabbed from behind and had a hand placed over her mouth to prevent her from calling out for help, police reported.

At this time police, who had been called by a neighbor who heard a commotion, arrived and Ms. Daroja opened the front door as Mr. Frisby allegedly ran to the attic to hide.

Police said Mr. Frisby remained in the attic for about 15 minutes before climbing down to the apartment, where he was arrested.

Investigators saw five small bags of crack cocaine laying on a table in the bedroom, which were confiscated.

Police said they observed bruises on the neck of Ms. Daroja, who is eight months pregnant with Mr. Frisby's child.

He was charged with breaking and entering, assault, battery, malicious destruction of property, resisting arrest, possession of drugs with intent to distribute and possession of drugs.
