Man faces assault charges

A 24-year-old Manchester man, charged with shooting at his former girlfriend and a man attending an outdoor party Sunday, was released on $5,000 unsecured bond, according to District Court documents.

Stephen T. Yingling of the 2600 block of Mount Ventus Road was arrested by state police at a bonfire party at Harvey Yingling Road and Hanover Pike, about one mile south of the Pennsylvania line.

Mr. Yingling was charged with assault on Teresa Ann Hollinger and Brian Todd Grothe, possession of a .45-caliber Ruger semiautomatic pistol and reckless endangerment by shooting at both people.

Police were told that Mr. Yingling and his former girlfriend were fighting at the party and that Mr. Grothe stepped between the pair to break it up.

Mr. Yingling left but returned a short time later with a handgun and began shooting, police said.

Police did not say how many shots were fired or how many people were at the gathering.

Mr. Yingling is scheduled for trial July 29.
