Constellation names Griffin group president

Constellation Real Estate Group Inc. announced yesterday that it had tapped the head of development at the EuroDisney theme park in France as its new president.

The company said it hired Randall M. Griffin to oversee three different units of Constellation Holdings Inc., which is the parent of Constellation Real Estate Group and is part of Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. Mr. Griffin has already begun work at the company's Columbia-based headquarters, company spokesman Larry Lichtenauer said.

Mr. Griffin will oversee Constellation Real Estate Inc., Constellation Health Services Inc. and CPI Church Street Inc., which owns Constellation's Church Street retail and entertainment complex in Orlando, Fla.

Mr. Griffin's arrival would not affect J. Richard O'Connell, who will remain as president of Constellation Real Estate Inc., Mr. Lichtenauer said.

The new executive has been working for EuroDisney since 1990. He oversaw development of all construction other than the theme park itself -- which added up to $1.2 billion worth of hotel rooms, entertainment complexes, a 27-hole golf course and residential projects. He also led planning for $1.5 billion of projects, including a shopping mall, convention center and office space that have not yet been built.

He arrives at Constellation at a stage when Constellation Real Estate Inc. has fixed many of the problems that plagued it during the recession. Its occupancy rate rose to 88 percent, from 58 percent during 1992. Constellation Health Services owns nursing homes and retirement communities through joint ventures with other developers.
