County planners to discuss Obrecht Road realignment

Sykesville residents will have one more opportunity to voice their opinions on the proposed Obrecht Road realignment when the Planning Commission meets at 7 p.m. today in the Town House.

The Town Council has charged planners with making a final recommendation on the issue by the council's June 14 meeting.

Planners met in an informal session Wednesday to review two options: extend Obrecht to Third Avenue or follow the county's plan to loop the road around the north end of Fairhaven Retirement Center.

The new road would afford residents easier access to Route 32, which many use to travel south to Route 70 or north to Route 26.

Many residents have spoken against the Third Avenue extension, proposed two months ago by town planners. They called that option unsafe and said it will have a severe impact on other town roads.

* Eldersburg: Sykesville responded to make an investigation on Macbeth Way at 9:13 a.m. Thursday. Units were out for 24 minutes.
