Block of Longwell Avenue to be closed for construction CENTRAL -- Union Mills * Westminster * Sandymount * Finksburg

June 07, 1993|By Staff Report

The block of Longwell Avenue beside the Westminster Post Office will be closed during the day for at least a week while a storm drain is under construction.

FTC Ron Ritz, project engineer for the city, said Longwell Avenue will be closed to vehicle traffic between Main Street and Winters Alley beginning tomorrow.

He said construction work will keep the road closed from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Winters Alley will remain accessible and pedestrian access will be maintained along the block while work is under way.

Depending on the weather and complications workers may encounter when they begin to dig -- type of soil, underground utilities -- work will take a minimum of four or five days, Mr. Ritz said. It is expected to be finished by June 18.

About that date, the nearby portion of Main Street, from Longwell Avenue to Westminster Avenue, will be closed for construction of storm drains, road and sidewalks.

The State Highway Administration said Main Street will be completely closed in that block for six to eight weeks.

Detours will be set up on Route 27, Green Street and Washington Road; and Center Street, Green Street and Route 27.
