Coast Guard petty officer wins medal

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class John A. Doll, son of Diane R. Kowalski of the Village of Wilde Lake, was recently awarded the Coast Guard Humanitarian Services Medal while serving at Coast Guard Air Station in Houston, Texas.

Petty Officer Doll received the award for extraordinary service during the period from October 1, 1991 through November 1992.

During this period, the Coast Guard undertook several massive operations involving several acts of humanitarian assistance beyond the call of duty.

His unit's HH65A "Dolphin" helicopter navigated through poor visibility and low cloud ceilings to locate a heart attack victim on an oil rig 70 miles offshore. The patient was medically evacuated to a waiting ambulance.

Petty Officer Doll graduated from Centennial High School in 1988.
